Jeanne De Vita, Literary Manager at Martin Literary Management
Since 2010, I have worked in acquisitions and as a developmental editor for traditional publishers and freelance clients. Whether I edited aspiring writers or established authors, including NYT, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon bestsellers, I have always focused on the long-term success of my clients. After more than a decade working with stories at various stages of the publishing cycle, including teaching both writing and editing at the college level, moving into the agency side of publishing was a natural transition.
I am excited by strong voices and compelling stories across the sub-genres of fiction, with a specific interest in romance, fantasy, thrillers/mysteries/suspense, horror, and speculative fiction.
My Background
I have an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Notre Dame and a BA in English from Iowa State University, but like most avid readers, my love for books started in childhood. My was a traditionally published romance author who wrote across the genres over her two-decades long career in publishing. I learned at a young age that writing was like dance or painting or any other art form—the craft takes time and practice to learn. And the business side of making art requires more than just talent.
My Passion
I am committed to developing diverse voices and have run pro bono mentorships for underrepresented authors. In the past, I have volunteered extensively with medically fragile children, the arts, and survivors of gender-based violence. I’m excited to discover new talent and to work with established authors searching for a caring, informed, and supportive advocate.
My Hobbies
When I’m not reading, I play video games (badly), spend time with my friends in family in Los Angeles and Chicago, and snuggle with my German Shepherd.
